Congressional Briefing on Child Nutrition

The National Rural Assembly would like to make you aware of a congressional briefing being held next Thursday, July 22, 2010. This briefing will discuss ways to increase rural children's access to healthy food through federal child nutrition legislation.

Included in the briefing will be an overview of rural children living in poverty and discussions on the difficulties these children face in acquiring nutritious food, federal efforts to ease access to nutritious food through the child nutritious supplemental meals programs, and aspects of the current child nutrition proposal that affect rural children.

Opening remarks will be given by Representative Carol Shea-Porter, who sits on the House Education and Labor Committee, through which the child nutrition bill must pass before consideration by the House of Representatives.
