Americorp Watershed Updates, Part 4 of 4: Huff Run

The last piece in our Americorp Prgram highlights will focus on the Huff Run Restoration Partnership.

Melissa Thorne, AmeriCorps member at Huff Run Watershed Restoration Partnership in Tuscarawas County, reports a great tree planting with students from the Sandy Valley Elementary school. 125 fifth grade students planted 730 trees in just two hours! The students worked in groups of 25 and followed directions extremely well. Three students in each group served as runners to pick up trees, tree protectors, and shovels. They then returned to the group and worked in pairs. One student placed the tree in the proper spot, the second put on the back fill. The students then alternated putting on the tree protectors. The students were like a well oiled machine! Hats off to Sandy Valley fifth graders. You rock!
