Rural Action Now Accepting Applications For Americorp Posititons

Rural Action is currently recruiting for the following National Service opportunities:

AmeriCorps*VISTA Summer Associates
Start Date-June 14, 2010 to August 9, 2010
Application Deadline – May 14, 2010

Positions are full-time for 8 weeks. Benefits include a $833 per month living allowance and an end-of-service cash stipend of $200 or an education award of $1,000.

2010 Summer Associates will work with youth and adults to address the following: outreach programs designed to increase the availability of nutritional foods to low-income residents; implement economic strategies to support local agricultural producers and increase marketing and sales of local food items to individual and institutional buyers; and supply locally produced fresh vegetables to approximately 40 disadvantaged youth from local communities participating in watershed day camps.

AmeriCorps Watershed Positions
Start Date- August 10, 2010 to August 9, 2011
Application Deadline – July 9, 2010

The 8 positions require 1700 hours of service over a 12 month period, provide a $950 per month living allowance, health care, and child care if income eligible. The positions also allow outside employment or attendance at an institution of higher learning while serving. An end-of-service education award of $5,350.00 is available at the completion of a term of service.

AmeriCorps Watershed members will perform the following tasks: water quality monitoring and field activities; data management; conduct outreach activities in local communities including: participation in watershed day camps, environmental learning activities for students throughout the school year, other educational opportunities for watershed residents, and collaborations with existing community groups. Members will also conduct fundraising and grant writing, and recruit and manage volunteers. Membership activities for host sites may also be required. Must be able to lift and carry 40 lbs and hike over rough terrain in all kinds of weather. Personal transportation is required. Some evenings and weekends required. Available host sites include: Raccoon Creek Partnership  and Sunday Creek Watershed Group  - Athens County, Leading Creek Watershed Group- Meigs County, Monday Creek Restoration Project  and Moxahala Watershed Restoration Commission- Perry County and Huff Run Watershed Restoration Partnership  - Tuscarawas County.
