Tonight! - A Public Meeting to Discuss New Mining Regulations at Burr Oak

This just in from the office of the Sunday Creek Watershed Group, a public meeting has been scheduled for tonight (Monday, March 1st) at Burr Oak Lodge to discuss the recently passed legislation allowing for mining beneath Burr Oak Park.

Formerly a part of the controversial Ohio House Bill 382 and later attached to unrelated legislation, the new regulations establish an agreement and land swap between Buckingham Coal and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Passed through the Ohio House of Representatives earlier this year, tomorrow night's meeting will feature State Rep. Debbie Phillips and representatives from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Buckingham Coal as well. This meeting promises to provide a forum for public concerns and provide greater explanation of the intent of the agreement in protecting Burr Oak Lake and resevoir.
We encourage anyone interested to come out and find out more about this legislation and how it will affect your watershed and your state park. The meeting will start at 7pm tonight at Burr Oak Lodge just off State Route 78 north of Glouster (map).

We'll be there, hope to see you too.

How can I send a comment if I could not attend the meeting? I used to go to Burr Oak as a kid, and would hate to hear that they are killing such a wonderful place with mining. Thanks.

Hi Tina,

The approval process is still ongoing for the permit, so if you would like to speak out I would suggest contacting local state Rep. Debbie Phillips or ODNR Assistant Director Rich Milleson.

Thanks for getting involved!
