Symposium on the Environment and World Culture Coming to Athens this Month

The Earth Justice Network, Greenfire, and Rural Action invite you to participate in a symposium called Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream on Saturday, January 30, 2010, from 9:15 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Christ the King University Parish, 75 Stewart Street, in Athens.

The purpose of the symposium is to help participants learn how they can foster a world that is environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling and socially just. The symposium was developed by the Pachamama Alliance, an organization dedicated to preserving the Earth's tropical rainforests by empowering the indigenous people who are its natural custodians. It is a transformational program that is galvanizing people around the world to examine the myth of progress and begin to explore the extraordinary possibilities inherent in a world-view that combines the deep, earth-honoring wisdom of indigenous cultures with the visionary technical brilliance of the modern world.

Two of Pachamama's trained volunteer facilitators from Boston and Philadelphia will lead the symposium and take participants through a day of dynamic group interactions and leading edge information featuring music, multimedia video, and insights from inspiring philosophers from various ethnic and spiritual traditions.

For more information about the Pachamama Alliance go to; for a good overview of the group and the Awakening the Dreamer symposium, watch the video by Neal Rogin called “A New Dream: The Story of the Pachamama Alliance.”

There is no charge but registration is requested because space is limited. Participants are asked to bring their own lunch; drinks and snacks will be provided.

To register, please e-mail or telephone Mary Anne Flournoy at 592-2852 no later than Wednesday, January 27, 2010. For directions, go to Click the Symposium Map/Find a Symposium icon on the right hand side of the page to find your route to a better world.
