Huff Run Parties in the Park

For the third year in a row, the Huff Run Restoration Partnership combined forces with the Mineral City Village Council and other area nonprofits in hosting Party in the Park!

Huff Run erected a large tent under which local kids created a veritable swarm (42 total!) of dragonfly magnets under the expert guidance of new Americorps Melissa Thorne (see pic), acid mine drainage was used to tie dye of over 80 t-shirts, Huff Run balloons were given out, popcorn was sold and River Games were played. Other great events at Party in the Park included a classic car show, kiddie tractor pulls, food, a cornhole tournament, displays, games and more.

During the evening of the Party, the sixth annual Huff Run 5K race & Fun Mile run took place. Such a hot and muggy day seemed daunting but local movers and shakers still managed a turn out of just under 30 runners. John Staley was the overall winner running in at 20:22 and Courtney Oliver was the fastest woman turning in a time of 21:51. Congratulations to the winners and a big thank you to everyone who participated.

It was a day of good times for old and young, and overall 23 volunteers donated over 78 hours of their time to organize and put on the event. A special thank you always goes out to Ed Taggart who stays as long as the staff and volunteered 15 hours on his own. Thanks to his and all our volunteers’ tireless efforts this was one of the more successful festivals yet with the Huff Run Partnership making approximately $850 from the races to help us continue our work on restoring the streams!

Hope to see even more of you next year as we Run for the Water!
