HUFF RUN AWARENESS DAYS

The Huff Run Watershed
Mineral City, Ohio

As part of their mission to educate regional communities about the importance of water quality, the Huff Run Watershed Restoration Project holds a multiday educational event every year aimed at children. This year, classes of children will be coming from Bell Herron, Tusky Valley, Sandy Valley, and Sherrodsville to visit stations throughout the Huff Run Watershed that will teach them about fish collection, macroinvertebrates, restoration projects, water quality testing, and enviroscapes.

This annual event is made possible through volunteers. Anyone interested in helping out or teaching a class should contact Maureen Wise (maureen@ruralaction.org). You can also call the Huff Run Offices for moreinformation (330.859.1050).



Village Bakery Fundraiser for CFI

The Moonshine Festival

Located in the rolling hills of Southeastern Ohio, the festival features a variety of events including a working Moonshine Still Display, local history museum, flea market vendors, and plenty of great food. The Monday Creek Restoration Project will be featured both in the festival’s parade, and in a booth during the festivities.

Horse Logging Workshop

Rural Action will be hosting a Horse Logging Workshop for landowners, and all others, who are interested in this “green alternative” to mechanized practices. Participants will meet at Fox Lake at 9:30 AM for parking, and will then be shuttled out to Chuck Atkins property for a demonstration of horse-logging. Lunch on-site, which will be followed by a tour of the Flournoy’s property.

Gaseous Diffusion Plant Open House

The U.S. Department of Energy is holding an informal open house to begin an evaluation of what is to be done with materials generated by facility decontamination and future remediation actions at the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant (GDP). All who wish to have input from the region are invited to attend.

SEO Kayaking Daycamp Benefit

Southeast Ohio Kayaking will be holding a benefit for the Sunday Creek Daycamps at Dow Lake outside of Athens. All rentals from SEO Kayaking on this day will go to benefit the Sunday Creek Daycamps.
