Adventure Auction

Get Your Tickets Today!

Rural Action’s second annual Adventure Auction is now less than three weeks away! It will be held at the Hocking College Student Center on April 4 from 6:00 PM -10:00 PM, with free childcare provided. Live and silent auctions will showcase exciting adventure opportunities in our region and beyond, while attendees enjoy food provided by Purple Chopstix and music from jazz trio Las Cuerdas. The event promises to be a truly fun evening – and a great opportunity to support sustainable development in Appalachian Ohio. All of the proceeds from this event will help to support Rural Action’s programs in energy, forestry, agriculture, environmental education, youth leadership, and watershed restoration.

As we've been doing over the past few weeks, we're giving our readers sneak previews of some of the packages that will be up on the auction block in April. Below are a few more of the packages that will be available:

Green Home Package

Bid for the chance to win a green home consultation by students and staff from the Office of Sustainability and Third Sun Solar and Wind Power, Ltd. Third Sun will come to your home and determine your solar potential and will give you your own proposal. Also you will receive a Third Sun hat and Kilawatt meter, which will enable you to assess the energy use of you appliances. Then the students and staff from the Office of Sustainability will tour your home and offer basic tips for conserving water and energy, minimizing waste, improving the efficiency of your heating and cooling systems, and supporting local businesses. Also included are 3 energy efficient Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs.

Hocking Hills Canopy Tours Zipline

Fast, fun, and exhilarating, this spectacular 3-hour adventure offers thrill seekers of all ages the unique opportunity to zip through the treetops on a network of cables and adventure skybridges suspended high above the forest floor, overlooking a cave, rock cliffs and the Hocking River. You will receive a detailed safety orientation before your adventure begins along a 1.5-mile scenic nature trail. You and a friend will complete 10 ziplines, traverse 5 adventure skybridges, and rappel back to ground level at the finish line. Between each zip, you will enjoy amazing views, and your guides will point out interesting highlights of each area including native vegetation, animals, and local history. This is great for thrill-seekers and nature lovers alike.

Pittsburgh Package

This package is full of learning, and great family fun for all the family members. Take your family to PNC Park baseball field to watch the Pittsburgh Pirates then venture over to the Carnegie Science Museum for educational tour of all that science has to offer. Also included are tickets to the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium where you will be able to see animals from all over the world. Finally travel to Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens to have a relaxing day amongst beautiful flowers, butterflies, and fragrances.

An Evening With Wilco

This is a package for lovers of great music, as it gives you the opportunity to see the pre-eminent rock band Wilco up close and personal at Memorial Auditorium in Athens, Ohio on April 17 at their SOLD OUT show! Formed by songwriter Jeff Tweedy in 1994 after the breakup of his seminal group Uncle Tupelo, Wilco has been billed by Rolling Stone as “America’s foremost rock impressionists” and one of the “most consistently interesting bands” in recent memory. Their sonic blend of roots, folk, country, and alternative rock has achieved great notoriety in recent years, with the release of landmark albums like Yankee Hotel Foxtrot in 2002 and A Ghost is Born in 2004 (the latter of which won them two Grammy awards – including best Alternative Rock Album). This is a show that you won’t want to miss. The package also includes a $20 gift certificate to Casa Nueva, creating an experience that will be pleasing to both your taste buds and your ears.

Wine and Cheese Sampler

Enjoy an afternoon filled with a bottle of the delectable Shade Winery wine, 2 wedges of the prized Athens' Own aged Wisconsin cheddar cheese, and a hickory smoked beef bologna stick. Francoise Cauchie’s year of homemade baguettes (easy to freeze) and a one-month membership to Abrio’s Wine Club are the perfect one-of-a-kind additions to this package.
