Faces of Rural Action

Spotlight: Chris Tomazic
Submitted by: Katy Sukfridge, AmeriCorps*VISTA for Media

This week’s Faces of Rural Action brings us to one of the talents behind the Rural Rambler, Chris Tomazic. Chris is a former resident of Lorain, and a graduate of Southview High School. In 2006, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Telecommunication Studies from Ohio University.

As a student, Chris spent a good deal of time studying public radio, as well as a host of other media. He also has been a valuable member of the Athens community, volunteering with United Campus Ministry as a member of its progressive theatre troupe, and also volunteering for WOUB radio.

Chris is currently a VISTA serving with Rural Action. As a member of the Rural Action team, Chris is involved with managing media development for the organization. Projects include everything from press releases to newsletters. This fall, he had a rather large project to promote, the Native Plant Rescue, which involved volunteers saving native plants from a construction project. Chris’ news releases eventually attracted the attention of former Ohio First Lady, Hope Taft, who attended the event. He is also involved with the production of Volunteer Action radio show, which is aired weekly on WATH 970 AM.
