Trimble Middle School Youth Act Group Picks Up Litter
By Liz Bonny, AmeriCorps*VISTA with Youth Act

During one of their weekly meetings, the Youth Act group at Trimble Middle School picked up approximately 200 pieces of trash from their school grounds. As they picked up the trash, they kept a record of the materials found and later helped analyze charts describing the materials found. The group is interested in expanding their project, asking all middle school students to join in their effort to remove trash from the school and larger community. They will publicize their efforts in the school with posters and will have a garbage can-shaped gauge to measure the amount of garbage students have picked up in their community.

Rural Action Partners with Good Works for 5th Annual Walk for the Homeless

By Tori Patterson, AmeriCorps*VISTA for Development

The Good Works Walk for the Homeless, an annual event to raise awareness of homelessness in Southeastern Ohio, will feature a new “Mystery Walk” event, which Rural Action has coordinated. This walk, in addition to the housing, employment, mini and shelter walks of years past, will take participants down the “Road to Homelessness,” on which walkers will participate in safe adventures that simulate experiences of homelessness. The Walk for the Homeless will take place this Saturday, beginning at 9:00 am, departing from the First United Methodist Church in Athens. If you would like to participate in the Walk or donate to the event, please visit to download an information packet. Make sure to visit the Rambler site for our upcoming edition, which will feature photos and updates from the Walk.
