Ohio Premium Pine Cooperative

The Ohio Premium Pine Cooperative will host a Fall Field Day on Saturday October 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Fall Field Day will demonstrate the benefits of proper pine management through observation of pre-commercial and post-commercial thinning of pine timber. Professionals will be on site from the Ohio Department of Natural Resource, the Athens Soil & Water Conservation District, Rural Action, as well as logging, sawmill, and timber contractors. The event will also feature a demonstration of Rural Action’s “logging arch” – a logging tool that reduces forest damage when transporting cut timber out of a forest. The logging arch is available to rent.

The Field Day will take place at a private farm located at 6675 Baker Road in Athens, OH. A potluck lunch is scheduled at noon. The event is free and open to the public, but is targeted towards landowners. For more information call 740-592-2852 or 740-664-2475.

Federal Valley Fright Nights

The Federal Valley Resource Center will present the fifth annual Federal Valley Fright Nights Haunted House. The attraction will run every Friday and Saturday from 7-11PM in October. Tickets are only $6 for a frightfully good time! All proceeds will benefit the Federal Valley Resource Center. The Haunted House is located in the Old School Building in Stewart, Ohio. Fall Family and Community Day

Come out to the Dairy Barn Saturday, October, 14 from 1-5 p.m. for a fun family and community event. This year, the Dairy Barn is partnering with WellWorks' annual Pumpkin Fest. Interactive singing and storytelling will be hosted by Kindermusik. In addition, there will be face painting and children's activities. WellWorks will provide nutrition and fitness information. The event will conclude with a silent auction of pumpkins decorated by area artists - be sure to look for these pumpkins on display at local businesses early in October. Monday Creek Watershed Tour

On Saturday, October 14, Monday Creek Restoration Project will be hosting its annual Watershed Tour. The focus will be on the work that MCRP and its partners have done over the past year. The tour will include visits to our most recent reclamation projects. Please RSVP by October 10. The tour runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and includes a free lunch. Meet at MCRP’s office at 115 W. Huff Run Birthday Celebration

The Huff Run Watershed Restoration Partnership will be celebrating its anniversary on October 25. A celebration will be held at the Atwood Lodge in Dellroy at 6PM. Dinner will be “wok action stations” with your choice of meat, veggies and rice. Cherries Jubilee will be served for dessert. A cash bar will also be available. There will be a speaker, awards, and a picture slide show of their efforts so far. The cost of attendance is $!5. RSVP at 330-859-1050 before October 13.

Sunday Creek Educational Videos

Rural Action will be at two festivals this weekend: The Ohio Forestry Association’s Paul Bunyan Show and Hocking College’s National Timber Outdoors Show. Rural Action staff will lead medicinal herb hikes, mushroom inoculation demo's, and invasive/non-native plant ID hikes & workshops.

The Ohio Forestry Association’s Paul Bunyan Show will take place October 6-8 at the Guersney County Fairgrounds in Cambridge, OH. Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, and free for children 6 and under. The festival opens at 8 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m. Visit the website for a schedule of events.

Hocking College will host the National Timber and Outdoors Show on the Hocking College Campus October 6-8. Admission is free. The show is open Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visit the website for a schedule of events.
