Invasive Plant Control and Demonstration Day

Learn about invasive species and how to manage them in a sustainable way on Friday September 22, from 9 3 p. m. This 2-part event will include more about why this species can be a problem from a land management perspective. The morning workshop (9am-12pm) will include identification and control options, with hands on demonstrations. Lunch (12-1pm) will be provided at a cost of $5. The afternoon portion (1-3pm) will be an opportunity to practice multiple control methods and to help remove Japanese Stiltgrass from an area of The Wayne National Forest. Registration is required. Monday Creek Watershed Tour

On Saturday, October 14, Monday Creek Restoration Project will be hosting its annual Watershed Tour. The focus will be on the work that MCRP and its partners have done over the past year. The tour will include visits to our most recent reclamation projects, including the lime doser at Essex Mine, the ongoing construction work in Lost Run Hollow, and Forest Service projects in New Straitsville. Please RSVP by October 10. The tour runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and includes a free lunch. Meet at MCRP’s office at 115 W. Main St. in New Straitsville. Federal Valley Fright Nights

The Federal Valley Resource Center will present the fifth annual Federal Valley Fright Nights Haunted House. The attraction will run every Friday and Saturday from 7-11PM in October. Tickets are only $6 for a frightfully good time! All proceeds will benefit the Federal Valley Resource Center. The Haunted House is located in the Old School Building in Stewart, Ohio. Happy Birthday to Huff Run!

The Huff Run Watershed Restoration Partnership will be celebrating its anniversary on October 25. A celebration will be held at the Atwood Lodge in Dellroy at 6PM. Dinner will be “wok action stations” with your choice of meat, veggies and rice. Cherries Jubilee will be served for dessert. A cash bar will also be available. There will be a speaker, awards, and a picture slide show of their efforts so far. The cost of attendance is $!5. RSVP at 330-859-1050 before October 13.

Sunday Creek Educational Videos

Sunday Creek has produced short educational videos about the types, causes, and effects of pollution in the watershed. The videos are meant for all ages. There is no cost for the video. If you (or your group) would like a copy of the video, contact Emily at 740-767-2225, or email her at

Sunday Creek - New Meeting Time

Sunday Creek Watershed monthly meetings have been moved from the fourth Wednesday to fourth Tuesday of every month. This month the monthly meeting will be held September 26 and will feature the new coordinator Kaabe Shaw followed by an open forum. The potluck starts at 6:30, and the meeting begins at 7:00. Festivals & Events

The 6th annual Sustainability Festival will be held on September 30 and October 1 at the Athens Fair Grounds. Visit the Rural Action booths while you’re there.

The Indian Mound Festival will be held September 29 through October 1 in The Plains. On Sunday there will be a parade, in which Rural Action will walk. If you'd like to join us in the parade, call Tori at 740-767-4938.

On September 29 from 6-10 p.m., Nelsonville will host a Final Friday celebration on the Nelsonville Public Square.
