Great News

‘Call Before You Cut’ Goes Statewide

On September 19, the Call Before You Cut Campaign made its official statewide kick-off at the Farm Science Review in London, OH. The program was started nearly eight years ago as a Rural Action sponsored local initiative aimed educate woodlot owners about the worth of their forests. Often, logging companies would take advantage of woodland owners by purchasing forests far below there true value and clear cutting the land. Call Before You Cut has helped reduce this number locally by connecting landowners with forestry experts, master loggers, and educators Rural Action is now partnering with a number of other organizations (including the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, the Ohio State Extension, and The Nature Conservancy) to take the program to the entire state. A radio and billboard campaign will direct people to a toll free number with a live operator (1-877-424-8268) and a website. It’s wonderful to see a local initiative grow to a statewide level!

The Campaign for Rural Renewal Makes a Stop in Columbus

On Tuesday, September 19 Rural Action kicked off the Campaign for Rural Renewal fundraising tour at the North Market in Columbus. Rural Action members and friends were joined by partners from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and The Corporation for National and Community Service. They all received updates on Rural Action’s most recent work. The evening’s program featured The Native Plant Rescue, the statewide Call Before You Cut Campaign and a testimonial from an AmeriCorps volunteer. It was a great opportunity for Rural Action to connect with members and friends living outside Southeastern Ohio, and we are looking forward to visiting other cities throughout the state in the coming year.
