Huff Run 5K and Fun Day

August 20, 5 p.m., Mineral City Park on State Route 800

Mark your calendars now for the Huff Run 5K and Fun Day, a benefit for the Huff Run Watershed Restoration Partnership. Registration forms for the 5K can be found on the Huff Run Web site. Entry fees: $10 for individuals; $20 for families; $50 for teams. Awards will be given to overall winners and placing racers in each age category. First 40 participants to register get a free t-shirt!

The Fun Day will take place from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Mineral City Park. The day will include games, crafts, water quality demos and an Environmental Explorer meeting. Photo Contest winners will be announced.

Film: “The Great Warming”

“The Great Warming” examines evidence that human activities are provoking an unprecedented era of atmospheric warming and climatic events. The film showcases initiatives aimed at reversing the trend toward permanent damage to our planet, as well as scenes documenting the emerging voice of America's faith community urging action on climate change.

The 2006 Foothills Rhythm and Blues Festival
Saturday, August 26, Side Hill Farm in western Meigs county. Gates open at 1 p.m. Donations accepted.

Five local bands (The Paranormals, Phil & The Thrill, The Mudfork Blues Band, Bad Mamma Jamma, The Free Beer and Chicken Coalition) will provide a full day of rockin' rhythm & blues.
