Action Alert

Rural Action Sustainable Forestry is organizing an effort to rescue native plants from the path of the Nelsonville 33 bypass, and we need your help! This Saturday, May 20, volunteers will dig up native forest herbs like goldenseal, wild ginger and wild geranium and will replant them into a holding bed for future restoration projects in the Wayne National Forest.

Two shifts are available. Volunteers may come for either or both shifts: from 10:00 to 12:45 p.m. or 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. Meet at the Wayne National Forest Headquarters parking lot on Highway 33 west of Athens.

Bring a packed lunch, sunscreen and work gloves. Refreshments will be provided. If you have tools, please bring them.

To sign up to volunteer, please call Elise or Tom at 740-742-4401. The plant rescue is being run in cooperation with The Nature Conservancy and The Roots of Appalachia Growers Association.
