The Share Your Heritage Workshop
April 26th-27th at Stewarts Opera House in Nelsonville
$30 for meals and all workshop materials
We invite you to be a part of the effort to promote this region's rich culture and heritage. This workshop will be a great opportunity for us to work together on plans for interpreting the Southern Ohio region. The counties included are Hocking, Meigs, Perry, Athens, Morgan, Washington and Vinton. At the workshop, participants will share their stories which will be used as the basis for interpretive planning and identifying opportunities for the new or enhanced attractions that will attract visitors and guide them through our region. Conservation Connection Tour

Saturday, April 22, 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
The Athens Soil and Water Conservation District, Athens County Farm Bureau and Athens County Extension are sponsoring a drive-it-yourself tour to explore watershed issues, identify impacts of land use and provide examples of wise resource management. Participants can travel freely to any or all tour stops on their own time schedule. Resource personnel will be on hand at each stop providing demonstrations, activities, site tours and information. Stops will showcase agriculture, forestry, wildlife and watershed management in Athens County. For more information, visit and click on the conservation tour link.

Remembering Community: A Spring Literary Arts Festival
April 21-23, 2006
The festival includes a creative writing workshop, Middle Eastern dance presentation, Pulitzer Prize-winning speakers, a presentation on the history of country music and a performance by the Local Girls.

Announcing the 2006 Sunday Creek Benefit Dinner
We invite you to join the Sunday Creek Watershed Group for an evening of great food and fabulous prizes! The fourth annual Sunday Creek Watershed Group Benefit Dinner will be held this year at the Moose Lodge at 69 ½ High Street (State Route 13) in Glouster. This year’s Benefit Dinner will be held Saturday, April 29. Dinner, featuring delicious homemade spaghetti, will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Gathering Place Art Expo! April 26, 2006
On Wednesday April 26 the Gathering Place will be hosting an Art Expo featuring artwork by their members. From 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm please join the Gathering Place team and their talented members at 7. N. Congree Street in Athens to view these works of art or to find out more about the Gathering Place, a drop in center for community members with mental illness. Refreshments will be provided!

Online Community Camp
May 25th, Ft. Mason Conference Center, San Francisco
The Online Community Camp 2006 is a gathering of online community practitioners -- managers, developers, business people, tools providers, funders -- to discuss experience and strategies in the development and growth of online communities. Those involved in online community development (and social software in general) share many common challenges: community management, tools, marketing, business models, legal issues. The best source of information on all of these challenges is other knowledgeable practitioners.

Monday Creek Ribbon Cutting
This Friday April 21st, at 1:30 in the afternoon, Monday Creek Watershed Group will have a ribbon cutting ceremony for their new doser. We will meet up at our office in New Straitsville, and proceed from there down to the doser, most likely using carpooling since there is limited parking on site. Harry Payne from ODNR Division of Mineral Resources Management and Russ Gibson from OEPA Division of Surface Water will be speaking on behalf of their agecies, which provided both Federal and State funding for the project. Eighth Annual Landowners Conference: “Farms, Forests and Communities”
Rural Action will present the eighth annual Landowners Conference on June 2-4, 2006 at Camp Oty’Okwa in the Hocking Hills region of Southeast Ohio. It will feature sessions on holistic resource management, private land conservation and stewardship, medicinal herbs and other non-timber forest products, sustainable agriculture, invasive plants and more.
